Redeeming points at checkout

Introduction

Seamlessly incorporate each extension into the checkout flow, allowing customers to effortlessly utilize their Loyalty points for an enhanced shopping experience.

Redeem Points extension

Embedding rewards redemption within the checkout process encourages customers to discover and claim fixed rewards more often, enhancing their involvement and promoting return visits.

  1. When a guest reaches the checkout page, the extension will offer a 'Sign in' option, motivating them to log in or establish a store account to participate in your Loyalty program.
  2. Upon signing in, the page will display the customer's available points and present a selection menu where they can choose rewards redeemable with their current point balance.
  3. Once a reward is chosen, BrandLift will subtract the appropriate points from the balance and create a discount code, which will be automatically applied to the customer's order.

Known limitations

  • Through the extension, members are limited to adding rewards for Amount Discount, Percentage Off, and Free Shipping. To include Free Product rewards, add them to your cart prior to checkout.
  • The dropdown will only display rewards that can be redeemed within the customer's existing points
  • If the order does not comply with the reward TOS/conditions, the points will still be redeemed but the discount will not be added to the order.

Advanced settings

To modify the default configuration of the Redeem Points extension, navigate to your order settings page.

  1. From the BrandLift Dashboard, go to Settings > Orders
  2. Scroll down to Checkout UI Extensions
  3. Select any of the following options:
    1. Show login - By default, the extension is only visible to logged-in customers. If you check this option, logged-out customers will see a link to log in
    2. Hide discounts selection when no available options - Automatically hide the checkout extension when no options are available for the member to redeem or when all the Ways to Redeem are disabled
  4. Click Save.

Translation

Customize the default translation of your Redeem Points extension.

  1. From the BrandLift Dashboard, go to Branding > Translation
  2. Search for Checkout UI Redeem Points within the page
  3. Edit the text
  4. Click Save.

Redeem Incremental Points extension

This extension enhances the redemption experience at the point of sale for businesses offering incremental point-based rewards programs.

  1. Before proceeding, ensure you've established an 'Incremented Points' category within your 'Amount Discount' rewards system, or set one up if you haven't already.
  2. Upon reaching the checkout page, logged-in customers will see the extension interface, allowing them to input their desired point redemption amount.
  3. Once the customer selects 'Redeem,' BrandLift will subtract the specified points from their account and automatically apply a generated discount code to their purchase.

Known limitations

  • The value of the points must be added as part of your text (Translation)
  • If the order does not comply with the reward TOS/conditions, the points will still be redeemed but the discount will not be added to the order.

  1. From the BrandLift Dashboard, go to Settings > Orders
  2. Scroll down to Checkout UI Extensions
  3. Select any of the following options:
    1. Show login - By default, the extension is only visible to logged-in customers. If you check this option, logged-out customers will see a link to log in
    2. Hide Redeem form when discount exists - If a customer adds a discount code to their order, the extension will be hidden
    3. Hide Redeem form unless order value is met - If you have set a minimum cart requirement in your incremental reward settings, the extension will be visible if the order meets the value
  4. Click Save.

Translation

Adjust the standard translation settings for your Redeem Incremental Points extension.

  1. From the BrandLift Dashboard, go to Branding > Translation
  2. Search for Checkout UI Redeem Incremental Earnings within the page
  3. Edit the text
  4. Click Save.

How to add the extensions

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Checkout
  2. In the Customize your checkout section, click Customize next to the checkout that you want to edit
  3. At the top bar menu bar, select the checkout page where you'd like to add the extension: Information, Shipping, or Payment
  4. On the left side menu, click Add app block
  5. Select BrandLift Loyalty & Referrals' Redeem Points Extension and/or Redeem Incremental Points Extension
  6. Optional: To change the location of your extension, click the ⋮⋮ icon to drag the block and then drop it to another available location
  7. Click Save.

Common questions

Can I change the position of the extension?

Correct. You can relocate the checkout extension between sections using the drag-and-drop feature represented by a button adjacent to it.

My customer redeemed points by mistake, what can I do?

In cases where a customer applied points for a discount but didn't complete the order payment, you can locate the customer in your BrandLift admin interface and issue a point refund within the Program Activity area.
