Enabling customer accounts in Shopify

Introduction

Creating an account offers a tailored experience that allows customers to conveniently review their past purchases, monitor their accumulated rewards and points, and check their status in the Loyalty program.

Enabling classic customer accounts

With the traditional customer account system, users can view their account information by providing their registered email and associated password. To enable classic customer accounts:

  1. On your Shopify homepage, click on Settings > Customers accounts
  2. Under Login links, turn on the option Show login links
  3. Select Classic
  4. Click Save

Members and Guests

Under the traditional customer account system, individuals who set up an account on your website are classified as Members. Those who shop and make purchases without establishing an account are labeled as Guests. Additionally, people who provide their email address through a form on your site but don't activate an account may also fall into the Guest category.

With the updated customer account model, any shopper who accesses their account using the single-use verification code will be categorized as a Guest. Given this change, it's necessary to modify the program criteria to ensure all your customers can participate in Loyalty initiatives and receive BrandLift communications.

Common questions

I just installed the app, why am I already seeing Members?

For those utilizing the traditional account setup, we consider any individual who has activated an account in your shop as a Member. This means that upon installation of the app, all users with existing accounts in your store will be displayed as Members, prepared to take advantage of the perks offered by your Loyalty program.

I use the new customer account experience. Can my customers become 'members'?

No. Internally, Shopify does not differentiate a new account that logged in with a one-time verification code from a new account that has never logged in. At the moment, any customer on the new account experience will remain as a guest.

My store is on the classic customer account but I want guests to earn points. What can I do?

Please update your program participants to 'All customers' to make your guests earn points. If you want them to also be eligible for joining a VIP Tier and receiving emails, please check the additional option.
